Trichology is the paramedical science that studies and assesses problems of the human hair, scalp and hair follicles in order to diagnose and treat conditions. A Trichologist is a person who studies the hair and scalp and helps with management of associated conditions. Rather than treating just the symptoms, a skilled Trichologist will seek to treat the root cause(s) of the condition which is essential in long term improvement and relief.
A Trichologist:
- Heals and repairs conditions of the skin with a focus on re-growing the hair.
- Partnerships with other health care professionals to provide the best solutions.
- Takes a holistic approach rather than medical one.
- Provides a scalp examination, review of hormones, lifestyle and nutritional gaps that may be contributing factors.
- Has access to scientific breakthroughs in the latest technologies, product development and trichological practices in the treatment of hair loss and scalp disorders.
As Trichologists, the International Association of Trichologists (IAT) and World Trichology Society (WTS) educate, support and promote our work worldwide. These organizations, study, research and support legitimate practice in all aspects of the treatment and care of human hair and scalp in health and associated conditions.

- Anagen: during this first phase the hair grows approximately 3-5 years before transitioning to catagen.
- Catagen: this second phase is a brief transition period that tends to last about two weeks. This is where the hair follicles shrink and hair growth slows.
- Telogen: the final phase lasts about 3 months. and approximately 10-15 percent of scalp hairs are in this phase.
