Male & Female Pattern Hair Loss (Androgenetic Alopecia)
Affecting all ages and genders, this condition makes up 95% of all hair loss cases. Thinning hair means that your hair is miniaturizing and over the years this leads to a reduction in the diameter of each hair strand, resulting in your hairs growing back slightly thinner and shorter with each hair growth cycle. This type of hair loss is the most common condition we see and is on the rise in our younger population. A hair and scalp examination will identify, diagnose and provide you with effective treatment options.
Telogen Effluvium (TE) or Diffuse Hair Loss
Telogen Effluvium can also be referred to as diffuse hair loss. This disruption occurs to the normal life cycle of the hair and is a result of an internal imbalance in the body. Normally, we lose 100 hairs per day providing they are growing back. With telogen effluvium, as many as 300 hairs can be lost in a 24-hour period. This hair loss can be acute/short term (3 months) or more persistent and re-occurring (more than 6 months), depending on the length of time and severity of the internal imbalance(s). Whichever the case, the imbalance must be pinpointed and corrected before hair loss stops and the process of hair restoration can begin.
Alopecia Areata (AA)
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition that causes specific spots of baldness to occur randomly on the scalp. Spots can range in size but are usually about the size of a coin, circular shaped and smooth in texture. Other parts of the body can be affected including eyebrows and lashes, body hair and beard hair in men. This condition can be triggered by internal causes such as a virus, stress, surgery, illness or an accident. Alopecia areata is a distressing condition and the anxiety one feels can alone exasperate the condition further, so early intervention is key. The good news is that once the underlying inflammation is addressed and possible triggers are pinpointed, we can see positive results.
